11 Dinosaur Knitting Patterns
Nothing puts a smile on my Granddaughters face like a Knit Dinosaur does.
Even in my wood workshop, she comes in and asks to build a dinosaur. It does not matter what it looks like, just as long as she builds it.
Or she will go to Nana and ask her to knit a dinosaur for her. T-Rex is her most favorite.
Here are 11 great patterns for putting a smile on their face. Just be warned that it may not stop at just one.

Dinosaur Sweater – Triceratops
No one knows what colors the dinosaurs were, so you can let your imagination loose in this triceratops sweater knitting pattern created with intarsia colorwork. Intarsia (or picture knitting) is a technique for knitting color designs by introducing another color yarn from a separate ball when needed and twisting with the background yarn to avoid holes. If you’re new to colorwork, here are some tips for intarsia knitting. The pattern includes sizes for ages from 4 to 13 years, and there is also a version featuring a velociraptor.

Spencer Spinosaurus and Baby Toy Dinosaurs
For those dinosaur fans who love the carnivores, they don’t get any bigger than the 50-foot Spinosaurus. Fortunately, these dinosaur knitting patterns bring them down to child size. But with Spencer Spinosaurus a towering 20 inches (50 centimeteres) tall and his baby standing at 10 inches (25 centimeters), these dinosaurs are still large enough to rule over the other toys.

Velociraptor RAWR Hat
The colorwork design on this hat is done with double knitting, but the lace weight yarn keeps the hat light enough to wear throughout the year. Double-knitting is a technique that creates two layers of knitting as you knit each row. The second layer becomes a mirror image of the design on the first layer, so the hat is reversible. This dinosaur knitting pattern includes small, medium, and large sizes. If you’re interested in learning more about double knitting technique, check out our class Foundations of Double Knitting.

Tracy Triceratops and Baby Toy Dinosaurs
Triceratopses may look scary, but they were actually herbivores whose horns and frill were protection against the scary Tyrannosaurus. So it’s fitting that they would be turned into big softies with the magic of knitting. Tracy Triceratops is knit in DK weight yarn and stands at almost 8 inches (20 centimeters) tall, while her baby, knit in cotton thread, is 4 inches (10 centimeters) high.
