Crochet Sneaker Slippers in the spirit of Converse, by Mun Tekemä
The slippers fit a foot size EU ca 43-47 (US adult 9-13).
A 3 mm crochet hook was used.
The yarn that was originally used (Novita 7 Veljestä, a brand from Finland) is listed as worsted, but as it at most could be described as light worsted I would recommend that you use a light worsted or DK weight if you substitute (translaters remarks).
Row 1: Ch 3, 12 dc in 1st ch, join first and last dc with sl st.
Row 2: Start every row with ch 3 = 1 dc. 2 dc in every st. Close with a sl st.
Row 3: *Dc in next st, 2 dc in the following st* repeat *-,-* until end of row.
Row 4: Dc in every st, no increases.
Change the color of your yarn.
Rows 5-8: Continue in dc.
The slipper is divided into the front flap and the rest of the slipper.
Front flap:
Row 9: Start the row with; 2 dc in the next st, 4 dc, 2 dc in the next st, 4 dc, 2 dc in the next st = 14 dc.
Dc back and forth ca 12-14 rows.
Last row: Ch 1, 3 sc, 1 hdc, 5 dc, 3 sc.
Rest of the slipper:
Row 9: Dc in the last dc of the front flap (= 3 dc in the same st) and continue across. No increases. Continue crocheting back and forth.
Row 10-12: Start and finish the row by increasing 1 st (= +2 sts per row).
Row 13: Start the row by increasing 1 dc in the first st, then increase 1 dc in every 8th st and increase 1 dc in the last st.
Row 14: No increases.
Row 15-17: Start and finish the row by increasing 1 st (= +2 sts per row).
Row 18: As row 13, but increase in every 9th st.
Row 19: No increases.
Rows 20-21: Increases at the beginning and end of the row, if necessary.
Crochet until 22-25 rows. On the last rows no increases were made. Leave a long end to seam the back seam.
Finishing:
Seam the back seam. Weave in ends. Crochet 2 rows of sc around the slipper (but NOT around the front flap).
Side label:
Row 1: Ch 3, 12 dc in 1st ch, join first and last dc with sl st.
Row 2: 2 dc in every st. Close with a sl st.
Row 3: Sc the last row. 2 sc in every 3rd st, close with a sl st. Leave a long end to seam the label onto the sneaker. Finish the label by sewing on a star and a dotted line. Or instead of a star, sew on the initials of the recipient of the slippers.
Finish the sneakers by threading a wide thread meant for sneakers into every 3rd sc.
